Book Talk 1/19/18
Guardians of Secrets (The Library Jumpers #2) Brenda Drake. Feb. 7th, 2017. Entangled, Teen. Netgalley. YA Fantasy.
Saving him could end her world.
Being a Sentinel isn’t all fairytales and secret gardens.
Sure, jumping through books into the world’s most beautiful libraries to protect humans from mystical creatures is awesome. No one knows that better than Gia Kearns, but she could do without the part where people are always trying to kill her. Oh, and the fact that Pop and her had to move away from her friends and life as she knew it.
And if that isn’t enough, her boyfriend, Arik, is acting strangely. Like, maybe she should be calling him “ex,” since he’s so into another girl. But she doesn’t have time to be mad or even jealous, because someone has to save the world from the upcoming apocalypse, and it looks like that’s going to be Gia.
Maybe. If she survives.
I start all my reviews with the blurb from either Goodreads or Amazon whichever I find it on first. I’ve been asked by Entangled to review #2 and #3 which will be in the future. I couldn’t wait to read the second book in this series as I loved the first and it was a hit with me. Here goes:
Arik and Gia are settling into a new school and a new routine after the events of book 1 and that means going public with their relationship for the first time. Things are off to a great start but the moment that they make it official, Gia learns another girl is interested in Arik. Arik begins to act strange as the days pass, questioning Gia and making time with this girl until finally, he breaks it off with Gia. Devastated, Gia tries to make sense of it all, but other events are happening at the same time which take Nick and her looking for chiaves. During their searches, attacks begin happening throughout the Mystik world. Someone is searching for Conemar. When she falls into a trap, she finds that her heart might just heal with the help of another, but will they be able to stop the attacks on the Mystik world? Or will she lose more loved ones?
Gia and Arik are such good characters although I had my doubts about the latter in this book, lol. Brenda Drake writes a clever fantasy that will have fans of all ages thrilled. This world has such depth to it, it’s like stepping into it from the first page. The plot was seamless. I find myself very fond of these books and looking forward to the next book. Try them, you won’t be disappointed!
